A note on tradition
The account below comes from the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana and related devotional traditions. It is cherished as sacred narrative, not an independently verified historical event. Details vary between texts and regions.
Vaishakha Shukla Chaturdashi · Vishnu’s Narasimha Avatar
Honour Lord Vishnu’s Narasimha avatar, who in Hindu tradition appeared to protect the young devotee Prahlad. The festival celebrates the triumph of dharma over adharma, courage, faith and divine protection — remembered through evening worship, prayer and seva. Customs vary by sampradaya, family and region.

आध्यात्मिक महत्व
Narasimha is revered as the fourth avatar of Vishnu in the Dashavatara tradition — a form that appears to protect a devotee and uphold dharma.
Prahlad’s devotion did not depend on circumstances. He remains a model of trust, gentleness and steadiness.
In Hindu belief, Narasimha is worshipped as a protector of the sincere. This is a matter of faith, not a guaranteed outcome.
The story affirms that pride and misuse of power do not prevail over righteousness in the end.
Prahlad was courageous without being arrogant, and patient without giving up his convictions.
Prahlad opposed wrong without hatred and even prayed for his father. We can stand for what is right while remaining compassionate.
These teachings can guide honest choices, speaking up for others, protecting the vulnerable and responding to hostility with dignity.

Some devotees fast from sunrise until the evening worship or the next morning, some take fruit and milk, and many do not fast. Customs vary by sampradaya and family.
Children, elders, pregnant people and anyone with a medical condition or on medication should consult a doctor. Drink water and break any fast if you feel unwell.
Panakam (jaggery water), fruits, sweets and other customary naivedya are common. Prepare and store prasad hygienically in the summer heat.
Keep the altar clean, handle sacred images respectfully and follow temple rules on dress and photography.
Use stable non-flammable holders, keep flames away from cloth and children, ventilate the room and never leave a flame unattended.
Where practices differ, follow family custom or trusted temple guidance.
Feed someone in need, offer water to passers-by in the heat, keep a vow of gentle speech or set aside time for prayer.
