About this observance
Dussehra celebrates Ramas victory over Ravana and Durgas over Mahishasura. Shastra puja, vehicle puja and Aparajita puja are performed, and effigies of Ravana are burnt at sunset.
Importance
Any work begun on Vijayadashami is believed to succeed without muhurat calculation.
History
Ramlila performances have been staged for centuries and are recognised as intangible heritage.
Mythological story
Lord Rama worshipped Durga for nine nights and killed Ravana on the tenth day.
