Traditional background
Mythology Behind Havan
Havan is among the oldest forms of worship in the world, descending directly from the Vedic yajna. The Rigveda opens with a hymn to Agni — the fire god addressed as the divine messenger who carries offerings to the heavens — and for over three thousand years the sacred fire has stood at the centre of Hindu rites, from daily sandhya offerings to weddings and coronations. Every Havan re-enacts this ancient relationship: the family makes offerings with the word 'Svaha', and Agni is traditionally believed to carry them to the deities. Claims that Havan purifies air are popular but not scientifically established; its deepest value is devotional.
